6:00 PM / N Y O O B I E S / Gillian
Nyood’s version of a beginner’s class where we spend more time with each pose, learning the basics of breathing and body awareness. This is the perfect choice for those just starting off and for those who have been just a little afraid to try out a class before.

Yogi’s choice. This class is designed on the spot based on how yogi’s in the class are feeling that day. Meaning, it is up to you. Perhaps there is a certain part of the body that needs a little extra love that day or you just feel like having a little more fun and trying something new. Anything is possible.

Gillian is a nutritionist, vegan yogini, and published holistic living writer based in Toronto. From the earliest of years she found herself fascinated with the composition of the foods we eat. This early intrigue was the basis of her decision to become a vegetarian at just 14 years of age in a houseful of meat eaters, and as her journey has deepened she continually adapts and grows, recently becoming vegan and playing with raw. This love and passion for all things having to do with health led to a degree in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph, which later developed into a career as the Director of Nutrition and Yoga for a multi-million dollar health and wellness company, Truestar. Her personal experience with the practice of yoga led her to take her yoga teachers training at Maha Pura Yoga. Her experience practicing yoga has changed her life forever and introducing it to others brings her great joy. Gillian strives to inspire as many people as possible with her posts about living a wholesome, balanced, and sustainable life, with the hope that they too will continue the circularity of this process. She loves to learn new things everyday, teach, and empower others to overcome personal obstacles to bring about positive change and find inner joy and peace.
This pursuit has resulted in many accomplishments including, but not limited to, instructing many professional athletes in her private practice, the creation of Truestar’s Yoga Sequence Builder and a series of complimentary videos wherein she was also responsible for all things nutrition on the site like maintaining the meal plans and writing inspiring healthy living content for the users, working alongside Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod of Bodybreak, being featured on national television syndicates such as CTV, for things such as yoga for kids and yoga for golf, and has written for MindBodyGreen.
Through these accomplishments she has developed a significant online presence and following. Currently, her Twitter has 2,560 Tweets and 4,347 Followers. Her personal Facebook page has 1,611 Friends and Fan Page has 615 Fans, and Friends of Fans totaling, 237,304 with an average reach of nearly 10,000 on a weekly basis. All of these social properties are driven through her website, gillianb.com, wherein she makes daily posts on everything yoga through to health and wellness.
Praise for Gillian
“Working with Gillian over the years has really helped me with Training for a long grueling NHL season. Weekly sessions allowed me to stay flexible and make the gains I needed to make in the gym as well as help reduce stress.”

“We at Motionball were fortunate enough to have the talented and beautiful (inside and out) Gillian B host our all day Yoga station at our June 2nd Marathon of Sport fundraiser in support of Special Olympics. Knowledgeable; passionate; professional; welcoming; and committed are just a few words that come to mind when describing Gillian’s style of teaching. I would recommend her to any and all and hoping she will be back to run this station next year at our event!”
Paul Etherington | Chairman and Co-Founder; Motionball for Special Olympics
“Gillian is a master of her craft. She is able to adapt complex concepts and movement patterns to all levels of athletic and physical ability. Her work with our organization has been invaluable and we will continue to rely on her expertise and service.”
Sam Gibbs | Head Therapist -Canadian Men’s National Basketball Program
“I have never been flexible but was fortunate enough to get referred to Gillian who introduced me to Yoga. As a beginner I was quite uninformed but Gillian with her patience and expertise proved to be an outstanding instructor. She brought me along with poses and flexibility that really improved my over all well being and training. I found her ability to instruct me at a basic level a rare skill given her own superior yoga ability as many instructors loose touch with beginners. In fact she improved my training capacity and helped my back enough I was able to push my training and won my age as well as weight category in my first ever bodybuilding competition this April. Thanks very much Gillian”

Stephen is a writer and consultant who has worked for the likes of performing artist Janet Jackson and award winning production house Rhombus Media, amongst others, as well as, assisting in the execution of Budweiser’s successful “Bud Camp” campaign.
After obtaining a traditional education at Trinity College in the University of Toronto, he moved to Los Angeles which served as a period of reflection and subsequent transformation. Ever since, he has always sought to venture toward the untraditional – the path less traveled as it were.
His passion and love resides within a very simple principle that can be found throughout every aspect of Nyood; do what you love everyday, do it differently than others, and do so in a manner that has a positive and lasting effect on others. This principle formulates the basis of a larger dream, inventing new worlds by going against the status-quo.
So, when his partner, Gillian, approached him with her own dream of opening and operating her own yoga studio, something she had longed to do for many years, he did so without hesitation.
Never having done yoga prior to their relationship, the introduction of a daily practice as guided and mentored by Gillian’s endless talent and passion has had a tremendously positive impact on his own life. Being fortunate enough to experience these on such a personal basis, he knew the benefit it would have in sharing these with others. Hence, Nyood Yoga was birthed.
Nyood is the combination of Stephen’s dream of inventing new worlds by going against the status-quo and of Gillian’s dream of sharing her exceptional talents with others, somewhere at the middle these two meet and the result is doing what they love everyday, doing it differently than others, and doing so in a manner that has a positive and lasting effect on others – it is here, somewhere in the middle, that Nyood Yoga resides.
Stephen is responsible for the branding and business development of Nyood Yoga. Ultimately, he is the buffer between Gillian and the ugliness of the business world, allowing her free spirit to continually grow in the most healthy and positive manner, so that she is always in the best place to help those most important to us, you, the students.
